Adult Literacy Project – Waubonsee Community College
Change a Life! Volunteer tutors help adults learn to speak, read and/or write English. A tutor works in either a classroom or one-to-one with a student. Working in an English as a Second Language (ESL) or Adult Basic Education (ABE) classroom involves assisting the teacher with small group exercises and helping students who are falling behind. Tutors who work one-to-one with a student tailor the session to meet the needs of the student. Students learning English have a variety of goals, but typically working on their conversation skills is priority. Adult Basic Education (ABE) students generally want to learn to improve their reading. Prospective tutors have a choice in training, a two day (Saturday) classroom training or an online training which is self-paced. Contact Elsie Mills, Volunteer Tutor Coordinator at 630-801-7900, ext. 4221 or emills@waubonsee.edu for more information. World Relief
World Relief could not exist without our volunteers! Volunteers are able to serve in both the classroom and individual settings. Classroom aides assist the ESL teacher with small groups, activities, and working individually with students who need additional instruction. In-home tutors work with one student and help improve their English through lesson plans that focus on reading, writing, and speaking. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Liz Clinton, Education Coordinator at 630-906-9546 ext. 21 or lclinton@wr.org The World Relief Aurora website is: www.worldrelief.org/aurora

Dominican Literacy Center
Tutors receive 16 hours of training, which occurs twice a year at the Dominican Literacy Center. Women who wish to volunteer as a tutor are paired with one woman who needs and wants to learn to read, write and speak English; tutors and students work together each week for 1 ½ hours. For more information, please contact the Dominican Literacy Center at 630-898-4636. Interested in becoming a tutor? The Dominican Literacy Center is having tutor training on August 17, 18, 20, 25, 2015, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Future tutors will need to attend all four sessions. For more information on tutor training, please contact Alison at alison@dominicanliteracycenter.org. The Dominican Literacy Center website is : http://www.dominicanliteracycenter.org/
